Yes, You Can Walk in Houston
Houston has a reputation as a car city, and for most of the metro area, that's true. But downtown is a different story. If you're staying at The District at Hogg Palace, you can reach an impressive amount of Houston's best attractions, venues, and restaurants without ever getting behind the wheel.
Right Outside Your Door (1–4 Minutes)
Market Square Park is across the street — literally a one-minute walk. It's surrounded by restaurants and bars, hosts outdoor movies and events, and has a dog run if you're traveling with a pet.
Jones Hall, home of the Houston Symphony, is one minute away on the same street. The Downtown Tunnels — six miles of underground shops and restaurants connecting 95 city blocks — are accessible from a one-minute walk. Alley Theatre is four minutes.
A Short Walk (6–10 Minutes)
Wortham Theater Center (Houston Ballet and Grand Opera) is six minutes. POST Houston, the massive food hall and concert venue in a converted 1934 post office, is seven minutes. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (touring Broadway shows) is eight minutes. Bayou Music Center is nine minutes. The Downtown Aquarium — part aquarium, part restaurant, part amusement park — is ten minutes.
Worth the Walk (12–18 Minutes)
Daikin Park (Houston Astros) is a twelve-minute walk. Toyota Center (Houston Rockets and concerts) is thirteen minutes. George R. Brown Convention Center is fifteen minutes. Discovery Green, the 12-acre downtown park, is fifteen minutes. And Buffalo Bayou Park, with its trails, kayaking, and skyline views, is eighteen minutes.
METRORail Gets You Further
METRORail's Preston station is a short walk from the hotel. The Red Line runs south through Midtown to the Museum District, Hermann Park (home of the Houston Zoo and Miller Outdoor Theatre), the Texas Medical Center, and NRG Park (home of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo). A single ride gets you to attractions that would require a car and $30 parking from any other hotel.
When You Do Need a Ride
Rideshare (Uber and Lyft) pickups are easy from our downtown location. For the Galleria, Montrose, the Heights, or Chinatown, a rideshare is typically 15–20 minutes and more convenient than driving and parking yourself. George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is about 25 minutes by car; Hobby Airport (HOU) is about 15 minutes.
Parking If You Have a Car
If you do drive in, we have gated covered garage parking for $25 per night. Park it when you arrive and leave it there — you won't need it for most of what downtown has to offer.
